Key facts

EIA crude oil inventories are the weekly change in U.S. crude stocks reported by the Energy Information Administration — the most direct weekly gauge of oil supply and demand.

Why the market watches it

A larger-than-expected build signals oversupply (weak demand) and pushes oil down, while a draw does the reverse, so WTI and Brent react immediately on release.

How traders read it

When the direction diverges from the private API inventory data released the day before, volatility rises. Gasoline and distillate stocks are worth watching too.
