Key facts
The PCE price index measures price changes in personal consumption spending and is the inflation gauge the Fed weights most heavily when judging its 2% target. The core PCE, which strips out volatile items, draws particular attention.

Why the market watches it
PCE is the Fed's official inflation yardstick, so the core PCE trend moves policy expectations directly. It is released later than CPI but carries more policy weight.
How traders read it
The key is how far the year-over-year core PCE trend sits from the 2% target. If CPI has already revealed the direction, the PCE surprise can be relatively muted.

When is the next US PCE Price Index release?
The next US PCE Price Index release is scheduled for October 29, 2026 (Thu) at 8:30 AM US Eastern Time. Following dates: November 25, December 23.
PCE or CPI — which does the Fed watch?
The Fed frames its official inflation target around PCE. That said, CPI is released earlier, so the market's immediate reaction is often larger on CPI.
